Mutant Cactus

$100.00

Grafting is the process of grafting two Mutant Cactus together to form a new and distinct cactus. The’scion’ is the grafting stock (the plant that will transmit its growth to the new plant).

The graft is a new plant that was grafted onto the scion. Grafting requires a great deal of talent to generate a happy, healthy plant, care to maintain it growing on the root stock, and then even more skill and care to remove the graft (degraft) and ‘root’ the plants so they have their own root stock.

Mutant Cactus

There is no such thing as a monstrous sacred Mutant Cactus. Rare, holy, one-of-a-kind… There is no more unusual present for a plant enthusiast.

Axe is displaying some lovely variations, such as powerful cresting that splays out to one side like an axe blade against its handle.

Check at the teeny mini axe-like growth down towards the base for a look into some of the fantastic oddness that awaits the lucky owner of The Axe. That is a grown-out ‘pup’ that will continue to expand in size as the plant matures.

In case you’re wondering, a crest is a type of cactus mutation in which many points of growth arise. A crest can make the plant appear to be unfolding rather than shooting straight up with vertical growth. They can sometimes fan out and form stunning sculptures.

STATS

Height: 15cm
Age: 2-3 years.

Olivia x Torres & Torres

The Pachanoi clone Torres & Torres is believed to have been discovered in northern Chile, and Olivia is also a Pachanoi clone with significant monstrous characteristics.

NOTES
‘The Axe’ is a stunningly gorgeous and powerful mutant that shows no signs of wanting to develop in all its bizarreness.

It was grown as a graft on Pereskiopsis Spathulata by one of Australia’s greatest producers. It is a de-graft with an established root system. It’s ready to be planted in a large pot and will thrive in full sun and plenty of water.
